I actually love this book (the FEELS!) but I agree that Fitz is a total dumbass and deserves to be facepalmed about. I would kick him but it seems that all the violence he gets in the books is not helping... 
But on the other hand Fitz'z dumbassery is partly why I enjoy the book so much. I will by nio means ever side with Fitz's views, but the conflict he creates is just AGONIZING to me. And to think he is a child of his world and by no means alone with his backwards views, and that the Fools is actually the "voice of progression" if you want. Seeing him in that world just makes me hurt.
Yeah, Fitz has issues with the word "love" and understanding that love and desire are two very different things.
